Good morning,
Tip of the day......Why we use
resistance bands in Pilates.
I teach Pilates using equipment and I love using the long resistance band and a loop band also known as a mini band. The resistance band adds progressive resistance, which helps to build strength, improve flexibility, and enhance control.
Reasons why a resistance band is beneficial:
1. Increased Muscle Engagement
The bands create constant tension, which forces the muscles to work harder throughout the entire movement. This leads to better strength development in
the core, arms, legs, and glutes.
2. Improved Control & Stability
Pilates focuses on controlled, precise movements, and resistance bands challenge balance and coordination, making stabilising muscles work harder.
3. Joint-Friendly Strength Training
Unlike heavy weights, resistance bands reduce stress on joints while still building strength, making them perfect for older adults or those with joint issues.
4.
Enhanced Stretching & Flexibility
Bands provide assisted stretching, allowing for a deeper range of motion while maintaining good alignment and control.
5. Versatility & Accessibility
➡️Suitable for all fitness levels, from beginners to advanced.
➡️Lightweight and easy to use at home or while travelling.
➡️Can be used for rehabilitation exercises.
Next is the loop band (also
called a mini band) as they increase resistance, activate muscles more effectively, and improve control.
Reasons why a loop band is beneficial:
1. Increased Muscle Activation
Loop bands create constant resistance, forcing muscles to stay engaged throughout the movement. This is especially effective for glutes, thighs, core, and shoulders.
2. Enhanced Stability & Control
Since Pilates focuses on
controlled movement, loop bands help challenge balance and coordination, making stabilising muscles work harder.
3. Joint-Friendly Strength Training
Unlike heavy weights, loop bands provide gentle yet effective resistance, making them ideal for rehabilitation, older
adults, or those with joint issues.
4. Improved Flexibility & Mobility
Loop bands assist in dynamic stretching, helping to improve range of motion while keeping movements controlled and safe.
5. Versatile & Easy to Use
➡️Great for lower body work (glutes, hips, thighs) and upper body activation.
➡️Lightweight and portable, making them perfect for home workouts or travel.
➡️Suitable for all fitness
levels—adjust intensity by using different resistance levels.
If you would like to try Pilates on a Wednesday or Over 50's Pilates on a Thursday and you have not been before try it for free.
Let me know if any of this helps in any way 😁
As usual would love your thoughts. 😀
Have a good weekend.
