Good morning,
Tip of the day......Why we use hand weights.
I run an over 50’s Keep Fit and HIIT class and use equipment including hand weights. The reasons I use hand weights are below:
1.
Maintains & Builds Muscle Mass
As we age, we naturally lose muscle mass (a process called sarcopenia). Strength training with hand weights helps to counteract this, keeping muscles strong and functional.
2. Supports Bone Health & Prevents Osteoporosis
Lifting weights puts
stress on the bones, encouraging them to become stronger. This helps to reduce the risk of osteoporosis and fractures, which are more common in later life.
3. Improves Joint Health & Reduces Pain
Strengthening the muscles around joints provides better support and stability, which can reduce pain from arthritis and other joint issues.
4. Boosts Metabolism & Helps with Weight Management
More muscle means a higher resting metabolism, which helps in maintaining a healthy weight and reducing fat gain.
5. Enhances Balance & Reduces Fall Risk
Stronger
muscles contribute to better balance, coordination, and stability, which are key to preventing falls and injuries.
6. Supports Daily Activities & Independence
Lifting groceries, climbing stairs, or even getting up from a chair becomes easier with stronger muscles, helping people stay independent for longer.
7. Improves Mood & Mental Well-being
Strength training has been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, and symptoms of depression by releasing endorphins (feel-good hormones).
Let me know if any of this helps in any way 😁
As usual would love your thoughts. 😀
Have a good
weekend.
