Good morning,
Tip of the day.....Why walking backwards is good for
you:
Yesterday in class we were talking about walking backwards and how good it is meant to be for you. My ladies were asking questions so I decided to look into it.Guess what we will be doing next week in our Keep Fit class😆
Why walking backwards is surprisingly good for
you
Most of us think about walking as something we only do forwards – but did you know that walking backwards has some amazing health benefits too?
✅ Improves balance and coordination – Moving in reverse challenges your body in a new way, training your brain and muscles to work together differently. This can help with overall stability and
confidence in daily life.
✅ Strengthens different muscles – Walking backwards works the muscles in the legs and core differently to forward walking. It especially strengthens the quads and shins, which support your knees.
✅ Boosts joint health – Because it reduces the impact on your knees, backwards walking can be kinder on your joints
while still giving you a good workout.
✅ Sharpens your mind – It requires more focus and concentration, which stimulates the brain and can even help with memory and mental clarity.
✅ Burns more calories – Walking backwards can be more challenging than it looks, so it gets your heart rate up and gives you an extra fitness boost in less
time.
Tip: Start slowly in a safe space, like at home, in the gym, or on a quiet path. Even just 2–3 minutes added to your walk can make a difference!
