Good morning,
Did you know that what you eat and drink before and after your workout can make a huge difference to how you feel—and the results you get?
It's easy to focus only on the exercise itself, but so many of us struggle with low energy, muscle soreness, or sluggishness simply because we haven't given our bodies the right fuel and hydration. If you find yourself flagging mid-workout or taking a long time to recover, you're not alone! Let's talk about how easy tweaks to your hydration and nutrition habits can help you get the best from your fitness routine.
Hydration basics
- Before exercise: Try to drink water steadily throughout the day. Heading into a class well-hydrated prepares your muscles and can help prevent cramps and dizziness.
- After exercise: Sip water or a herbal tea to replace what you've lost through sweat. You'll likely notice clearer thinking and a faster recovery.
Nutrition for energy and recovery
- Before: Think light, slow-release energy.
A banana, oat cake, or yoghurt about an hour before your session can power your workout without feeling heavy.
- After: Aim for a combination of protein (like eggs, chicken, beans, or Greek yoghurt) and healthy carbs (wholegrain toast, rice, or fruit). This helps repair muscles and keeps those energy levels up for the rest of your day.
Listen to your body
Everyone's needs are a bit different, and it's all about tuning into what helps you feel your best. If you're coming to sound bath meditation or a dance fitness class, arriving hydrated and with a light snack really does make a difference. You might be surprised how much better you move and
how much quicker you recover!
